Chinese shale gas unlikely to enter foreign markets

China holds the largest technically recoverable shale gas resources in the world in conjunction with all the geological, technical and water resource challenges, regulatory hurdles, transportation constraints, and competition with other fuels, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration's estimates. This has given rise to speculation as to whether China would resort to the export of its own shale gas if this can be extracted profitably, or that Beijing would rather use it purely for domestic consumption.

However, many experts question the economic viability of Chinese shale gas resources, owing to more challenging geology. Turkish Anadolu News Agency interviewed Sijbren de Jong on this matter. The full interview can be read here.
