Conference on Economic Security and Raw Materials in Europe

Conference on Economic Security and Raw Materials in Europe

17

DEC

2014

On Friday 30 January 2015 the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers, VNO-NCW, will organize in cooperation with The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies and Raw Materials Supply Platform a conference on ‘Economic Security and Raw Materials in Europe’

The central question that will be discussed during the conference is how Europe can increase the security of resource supplies for the European market. In light of expected growth of economies beyond Europe’s borders, increasing protectionism, resource nationalism and recent geopolitical tensions, this is a relevant and urgent question that needs to be addressed. Europe is proponent of a global, open and transparent economy. Recent developments point however in a different direction. How can Europe best respond?

During this conference speakers from businesses, government agencies and knowledge institutes will present their views on a European agenda for the security of resource supplies. Minister Ploumen for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will deliver the closing speech. Other speakers include: Dirk Jan Koch, Special Envoy on Natural Resources, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ab van der Touw, CEO Siemens; Gerben Jan Gerbrandy, Member of European Parliament; Winand Quaedvlieg, Senior Advisor of International Policies, VNO-NCW - and others. The full program can be found below.

With the results of the conference, the Dutch business community aims to give security of resource supplies a more prominent place on the European agenda.

Registration is by invitation only.
